The Benchmark Stables Jumper Derby Weekend at Liz Atkins’ Benchmark Stables in Hampshire, Illinois, wrapped up a fantastic list of events and awarded the weekend’s top performers.
Sunday features the Homestead Veterinary Hospital and Pro-Stride Champagne Brunch during the fun jumper derby competition where riders will put into action the lessons learned from Saturday’s Diane Carney clinic. Sunday’s schedule is as follows:
Saturday begins with a jumper clinic at heights from .80m to 1.40m with USEF licensed official and clinician, Diane Carney. The clinic is focused on the skills needed to ride a jumper derby course, including water options and natural obstacles.
Boasting a thirty stall heated barn and a large heated indoor arena for winter comfort, it also offers ample grass turnout and a spacious outdoor ring for fairer seasons. Benchmark Stables is dedicated to quality in all aspects of horse care, training, and client service.

After packing up her two best horses, she navigated her way across the boarder to take in the outstanding competition experience as only Spruce Meadows can offer.
Liz Atkins had no idea what a wild ride she would encounter when the plain, dark brown, Dutch gelding walked into her Benchmark Stables in 2014. Atkins had purchased Rodeo VDL as a six-year-old from Heyday Investments in St. Louis and had a grand prix career planned out for the talented little jumper.
The third and final week of the Chicago Festival of the Horse kicked-off on Wednesday, August 7, at the Lamplight Equestrian Center. While the Main Hunter Arena saw horses jump with style and grace at a relaxed pace, the Grand Prix Arena saw jumper riders race against the clock, slicing turns and putting in their best efforts to leave all of the jumps up.
Competition at the Lamplight Equestrian Center continued on Saturday, Aug. 11, as part of Equifest’s third week. Atkins participates yearly in the annual George H. Morris Chicago Clinic at Rush Weeden’s Brookwood Farm on Thanksgiving weekend, this year taking two of her mounts for the intensive 3-day schooling session.
